THINGS MAY COME…

“Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.”― Abraham Lincoln

Here are two things I heard every so often back in the day;

  • Good things come to those who wait (but only the things left by those who hustle)
  • The patient dog eats the fattest bone

The original quote was edited to the mundane good things come to those who wait, to make people feel waiting is a virtue. It is not.

Only when you’ve truly experienced life in some of its variations do you realize that, those are hindering mantras that hold no value whatsoever. I quite agree with the correct form of the first quote, those who wait will only get the leftovers of the ones who didn’t wait. In fact, with how the scarce resources are right now, nothing will be left behind for those who wait.

I sometimes pause and wonder about these mindless ‘be patient’ shenanigans, and why actual thinking people chose to instill such passiveness onto others- promoting a mindset of indolence and entitlement.

Wait for it, if it’s yours it’ll come to you.

How? The world doesn’t work that way, to the best of my knowledge.

I’m thinking back now, and I’m incredibly irked because we are a byproduct of our environment. What we see, hear and experience influences who we become, and if this was a mantra for some, like believing manna fell from heaven, then it subconsciously instilled itself in us.

I don’t believe patience has its own reward, nor do I believe it is a virtue, it has sent far more people to the grave than starvation. Patience will not get you what you need, you have to go out there and work for it. True, certain situations require your patience because humanity is a festering disease. But once, twice, with the same situation or person should be all you endure. Humans are ungrateful, it is ingrained in the DNA, and they will continue to take your patience for granted, so only give it when it is inevitably necessary. Otherwise, match the energy that’s thrown your way.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m an advocate for being the change we want to see in the world, but you have to pick your battles- and make sure to pick the right ones. Martyrs are only names a few remember for a fleeting moment, then they go back to what they always do. Don’t be a Martyr for change in a world that’ll forget what you fought for the moment you stop trending, choose survival instead, choose you.

Truth is, the concept of meritocracy, and what is right are skewed. Doing things the right way will most certainty not get you what you deserve, so you’ve got to get your hands dirty and do what you must.

I fear I’m beginning to sound like V, but I guess he was right in this regard; life when you really experience what humanity is capable of, is just like the mafia.

This is where I leave you; Live for yourself. Go out there and work, whatever it takes, for what you want. Nothing you don’t fight for will come to you. That’s nonsense… we don’t get what we deserve, not since mankind broke the system.
